The Regionale (28.11.2024-05.01.2025) is a trinational project that transcends national borders and is unique in this form. 20 institutions from three countries (CH, F, D) present artistic positions from the Basel region and the tri-national area. This cooperation between exhibition venues in north-western Switzerland, southern Baden and Alsace has existed for more than two decades. Contrary to the general political tendency, this partnership focuses on what we share and what unites us, rather than on what distinguishes and divides us. The Regionale is therefore not only the most important platform for regional artistic creation, but also a sounding board for international artistic and social debates in the region. In 18 exhibitions, Regionale 25 brings together the works of over 200 artists who deal with burning contemporary issues across all genres and in a variety of ways, such as the use of artificial intelligence, the tension between personal life plans and social forecasts for the future, the need to question what is taken for granted, to celebrate a bygone era, to expose the harmless appearance of cuteness or to raise the question of artistic productivity in old age.

The Regionale is open to all artists from the border triangle, who can apply to take part from the beginning of May to the end of June. For the participating curators and the public, the Regionale offers the opportunity to gain an overview of current work and get to know new artists from the neighboring countries. The participating artists are given the opportunity to present their work to a broad, supra-regional audience.
