Information and conditions for participation for the Open Call for Regionale 27

What is the Regionale?
As a trinational platform for contemporary art, Regionale creates spaces for exchange between artists, exhibition spaces and audiences in the tri-border region (CH, DE, FR). It reflects the current diversity and quality of artistic production in the region. The Regionale 27 will run from the 26th of November 2026 until January 2027.
Who can apply?
Applications are open to artists who live and work in the trinational region (North-Western Switzerland, Southern Baden, Alsace), or who maintain a strong connection to the region, for example through their studies, background, training, living and working in the region or through membership in one of the art associations (Basler Kunstverein, Kunstverein Baselland, Verein Ausstellungsraum Klingental, BBK Südbaden, Kunstverein Freiburg). Acquiring membership solely for the purpose of participating in the open call does not constitute a sufficient connection to the region. The curators invest significant time and care in the selection process; we therefore ask you to respect these criteria.
What is the selection process?
All submitted dossiers are reviewed by the curators of the participating exhibition spaces. On this basis, they develop their exhibitions. In addition, curators may directly invite selected artists to participate. The institutions will contact artists directly by the end of August 2026 to inform them of a potential participation in Regionale 27.
What are the conditions of the exhibition spaces?
Each participating exhibition space makes its decisions independently and informs the selected artists about the details regarding transport, installation and deinstallation, sales commissions, and any expense allowances.
How to apply?
– Application materials (dossier) may be submitted in German, French, or English.
– Participation in the open call is only possible via our website
– Please read the participation guidelines and the submission instructions on the website carefully.
– The online form is open from 1 May to 31 May 2026 (23:59). Submissions outside this period cannot be considered.
What are the application requirements?
– Completed application form (in German, French, or English).
– One (1) dossier as a PDF including relevant visual material and a short CV.
– The dossier should either present an overview of your artistic practice or a specific project proposal.
– Indication of works available for exhibition.
– Maximum length: 10 pages; maximum file size: 15 MB.
– Film and video works must be included exclusively via links in the dossier or form.
– File name: Surname_Firstname_Dossier.pdf
(Please do not use full stops, spaces or special characters in file names, as this may cause upload errors.)
How to apply as a group or collective?
Please submit a joint dossier, state the name of the collective, and list all participating artists individually in the online form under “Name of the collective and additional persons”. All communication will be conducted exclusively via the designated contact person.
What should I keep in mind when applying?
– Individual images or videos cannot be uploaded separately; a single, complete dossier must be submitted.
– The dossier must clearly indicate which works are available for exhibition.
– The dossier may present either a specific project or a selection of works together with a CV.
– Please complete the online form in full. Fields marked with * are mandatory.
– Upload your dossier as a PDF and click “Submit”.
– No changes can be made after submission.
– In case of technical issues, please consult the FAQ before contacting us.
– Late submissions (after 31 May 2026, 23:59) or submissions sent by email cannot be considered.
– Please avoid uploading your files at the last minute to prevent server overload.
– It is not possible to submit dossiers via email.
– We cannot create dossiers for artists either.

What is the participation area of the Regionale and the Open Call?
Basel (CH), Freiburg (DE), Hégenheim (FR), Liestal (CH), Mulhouse (FR), Münchenstein (CH), Riehen (CH), Sélestat (FR), Strasbourg (FR), Weil am Rhein (DE)
If you have a strong connection to this region, you are eligible to apply for the Regional Program. Residents of Karlsruhe may also apply due to the university’s affiliation with the University of Freiburg.
Questions about the Open Call:
Why can’t I upload my files?
Please check the following:
– Maximum file size: 10 MB
– Maximum 10 pages
– Only one PDF allowed
– File name: Lastname_Firstname_Dossier.pdf
– Try using a different browser if needed
Why can’t I click “Submit”?
– Usually some information is missing. Please check:
– All fields marked with * are filled in
– The website link is correctly formatted (https://…)
Where do I enter which names?
– Last name → field “Name”
– First name → field “First name”
– The artist name is used unchanged and sorted by its first letter
– In our archive and printed materials, entries are sorted alphabetically by last name
Where do I upload my CV?
– The CV must be included in the dossier
– A separate PDF is not possible
Why do I need to indicate available works?
– So that curators can quickly see which works are actually available for exhibition
What should I include in the keywords?
Short keywords (max. 500 characters) about:
– Themes, content, questions, …
– Techniques, media, execution
– This is only for a quick overview
– Do you have a disability or need specific support for a possible exhibition? If so, please write here: “support”
What happens to my dossier?
– Your dossier is stored and made accessible to participating institutions
– Curators select artists for their exhibitions
– The data will remain archived internally after the Regionale
When will I receive a response?
– Curators will contact selected artists directly
– The selection process takes several months, between June and August 2026
– If you have not received any message by the end of August 2026, you can assume that you have not been selected for Regionale 27
